To understand this batch, you have to understand the word on the label.
What Guelaguetza means
Guelaguetza is a Zapotec word for reciprocal giving — the idea that what you offer to the community comes back to you. Each July, Oaxaca turns it into one of Mexico's great festivals: communities from across the state gather in their traditional dress to share music, dance, food, and offerings. It is a celebration of belonging.
We made this mezcal in that spirit — as an offering rather than a product.
A single batch, made by hand
Like every Chulele release, Guelaguetza 2022 is one batch, tied to one harvest of espadín agave in Santiago Matatlán. Roasted in earth, fermented on wild yeast, and twice-distilled in copper — the same patient, unrepeatable process behind every bottle we make.
It pours as Espadín Joven at 50.4% ABV, 100% agave: bright agave on the nose, soft citrus, and a warm, earthy finish. A mezcal built for sharing — for the table, the toast, the gathering.
Held in reserve
There is one batch and no more. Rather than list it for open sale, we hold it in reserve alongside our Día de los Muertos release, and offer it by allocation so each bottle goes where it's wanted.
Read the full story of this batch, and if it's calling to you, join the reserve list. When a bottle — or the next harvest — is ready, you'll hear from us first.
